Homer's The Odyssey

Picture
Follow Odysseus as he makes his long and dangerous journey home from the Trojan War. Join him as he encounters sorceresses, battles monsters and defies the very gods! An exciting roller coaster of a story that every primary school child have the opportunity to hear.

Note about this planning: All of our Shakespeare and More English units are built around key objectives from the 2014 English National Curriculum for children aged 7-11.

Shakespeare and More The Odyssey Unit- The Complete Works
All the bits and pieces you need to teach The Odyssey- planning and resources. Ship not included.

To teach this unit, you might need:
The Odyssey retold by Robin Lister
A great version of the classic by Homer. There's also an illustrated version that's great, if you can find it... We base our The Odyssey unit on this text.
The Voyages of Odysseus by Sue Reid
We use this version all the way through our The Odyssey unit. It's comprehensive, accessible and attractively illustrated. Highly recommended.
The Adventures of Odysseus by Hugh Lupton, Daniel Morden and Christina Balit
Another beautiful version. Great for children right across KS2.
Tales of the Trojan War by Kamini Khanduri
A quick and accessible way to recap some stories from The Iliad and provide some background to Odysseus' tale.
The Odyssey retold by Gareth Hinds
A work of art! A terrific comic strip version of Homer's epic poem. Great for children to read independently.
The Story of Rome by Rosie Dickins
Easy-to-access background information on Rome. Covers Tarquin the Proud and the senate.
